AFPOP East Algarve Area organiser Linda Cree celebrated 15 years of working with AFPOP as a volunteer last week, with a lunch at Barbacoa restaurant in Almancil, on Monday 23rd May.
Around 80 people attended the event, at which guests were entertained by guitarist Charlie Waite.
After the lunch, Linda reminisced about her period in office, during which she has organised hundreds of events for AFPOP East Algarve members, ranging from lunches, Summer Balls and Christmas events, through to joint trips organised with the West Algarve Events Organiser including coach tours of Spain and Northern Portugal, and a river cruise along the Douro River.
“We have organised many wine tastings and exclusive wine offers as well as visiting cork factories and olive oil farms – and all of these events too have been well attended. We have also raised a good deal of money along the way for charities in our area.
“There has been a great deal of hard work involved with many thousands of telephone calls and emails, not to mention regular newsletters, but it has been very rewarding, and I have made many friends along the way,” said Linda.
“I am delighted to say that the number of members on my mailing list has risen quickly over the years, and the spirit of belonging to the organisation has been good to see and very rewarding for me.
“I couldn’t have managed all this without great support from my husband Graeme, who even provided music for our events as a DJ in the early stages, and who has been a great help throughout.”
Steve Wilson at AFPOP, in making a presentation to Linda, said that Linda had had made a huge contribution to the development of AFPOP in the East Algarve, helping to increase and sustain AFPOP’s membership numbers.
Congratulations Linda!
