Rotary Summer Camp students tell of their experiences

Rotary Summer Camp students tell of their experiences.Rotary Club Estoi Palace International sponsored students to go to various Rotary Summer Camps earlier this year, and on Wednesday 30th October the students were invited to give presentations about their experiences.

The camps are designed to promote cultural and social encounters for the youth from different cultures and origins, with the aim of improving international understanding and fostering peace.  Youth camps broaden their experience by learning about a region’s people, food, language, customs and history.  They also help to build enduring friendships and establish a foundation for peace and service.  There are many different camps. The focus can be on sports, arts or culture, music, tourism, hiking, cycling, sailing, canoeing, tennis, horseback riding, hang gliding, etc., usually with a mix of activity and culture.

Of the ten students RCEPI sponsored five were present. Three others, who are away at university and could not attend, were represented by family members. All talked about their camp experience, in front of their parents, Rotarians from RCEPI and Loulé  and other guests.

The dinner was held at Loule School and the food was prepared and served by their cookery students.  An excellent meal was followed by hearing how much the students had enjoyed visiting a foreign country, meeting young people from many different countries and cultures and making new friends, and how life changing the experience was for them.

Work has already started on the 2025 season Summer Camp and more students will have the opportunity to visit Rotary camps next year.
