Jackie O'Grady's group showcased their "Garden Theatre" format in the tropical beer garden of the Quinta fe Figuerinha last week (3rd July).
Innovative props and clever stage management turned the stage, normally reserved for musical events, into a bleak, mid-western farmhouse. When the powerful stage lighting snapped on the audience were almost propelled into the midst of the action.
The play, Trifles, deals, on the surface, with a murder investigation. However skillful characterisation and nuanced performances by the cast revealed a deeper interpretation of the storyline. An entertaining little thriller on any level. The relaxed atmosphere, with food and drink available added to the enjoyment.
The performance was rightly crowned with enthusiastic applause. As a further treat the entire cast and stage management then mixed with the audience.
