AMAL promotes Safety in the Algarve together with the foreign community

Safe Communities AlgarveThe Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve - AMAL have signed last Wednesday the 21st  January 2015, a protocol of collaboration with the association Safe Community Algarve. The purpose is to strengthen the cooperation between both entities in the prevention of crime and safety of the foreign resident.

In a region that sees itself as the country's main holiday destination for the local and foreign tourist, and with a foreign resident population of around 12 %, it is essential to value the need for self-protection measures with the aim to prevent risks, personal and collective and promote safer communities.

Through this partnership, AMAL and Safe Communities Algarve have come together in an effort aimed at keeping people well informed on security issues , crime prevention or forest fires, helping ensure that the Algarve remains a safe place to live and visit

David Thomas President of Safe Communities, and Jorge Botelho, President of AMALIt is essential that the Algarve keep their safety standards and continue towards making it a safe region for visitors and residents. It is even more important to seek to reconcile synergies between the competent authorities to maintain the quality of life that characterizes the Algarve and that distinguishes it as a tourist destination of choice, emphasized Jorge Botelho, President of AMAL, during the protocol signing session.

David Thomas President of Safe Communities echoed these words and added that “the Mayors in the Algarve had already shown close support for the work of the association and the protocol will allow for the strengthening of this collaboration and the development of new initiatives that will benefit all communities living here as well as visitors to the region”.

In December the Mayors in the Algarve at a meeting of AMAL voted unanimously to adopt the protocol.
