Goldra NOW - November 2017

Heather and SandyWe thought it would be a good idea to introduce you to some of the people who give their time to help at Goldra. Let´s start with two ladies who take on the important task of walking some of the dogs on a regular basis.
This is Heather. Like so many of us she moved here for the weather and the lifestyle, and she has been here now for twelve years. She made contact with Goldra via Lil and Sonia, and has been walking dogs regularly for around 8 months. Again like so many, Heather has adopted a dog from the Sanctuary, and you can see how well she and Sandy get on. In common with all of us who work for Goldra, she is always astonished by the level of dedication shown by Jan and Ray, and keeps coming back because it is so obvious that the dogs are happy and well.cared for.

Our second volunteer is Marylyn. She has been living here permanently for nine years, although her Algarve experience goes back much further. She soon found out, as we all do, how great is the need for animal welfare activities here, for all kinds of creatures. During her time here, she and her husband have helped with animal groups in all kinds of ways, Goldra being just one of them. They rescued a street dog whom they called Bacardi, who sadly died just a year ago.
Marylyn walks some of the dogs once a week, and like so many of the volunteers, she gets as much out of the experience as do the dogs, She also has nothing but praise for the work done by Jan and Ray, and asks that as many as possible can give time to help them out.

Sanctuary News
A quiet two weeks at Goldra means that there is not a great deal to report. The Q litter has been enlarged by two, as two more of the pups were caught and brought up to Jan. Quarta and Quinta are the two new arrivals (anyone got any more Q names? - we are running out!). All but one of the litter have been reserved, so the record for quick re-homing of the young ones is intact.
One adult dog has been adopted. Oscar is one of the lucky ones. He was only at the Sanctuary for about three months, and now he is with his new owner. Meanwhile Billy, who has been at Goldra for two years, is also on the list for travel, probably in the new year. Two of the famous Bucket Pups from last Christmas have gone to Holland, and one is in foster care.
The photos below are of the various pups still at Goldra, followed by one of Oscar in his new home.

CALENDAR 2018
Goldra CalendarThe Calendar for 2018 is now on sale. Contact any of the people listed at the end of the newsletter to obtain your copy for only 5 euros.
They make great Christmas gifts.
And talking of Christmas (yes, we do have to) the Christmas Fair season is almost upon us, and Goldra will have stalls at several of them. We need two things - things to sell and people to sell them. If you can make or bake items for our stalls, please let Sue Ward know as soon as you can. A full list of the Christmas Fair dates will be available in the next Goldra Now, and if you can offer a few hours to set up and sell, again let Sue know.

Christmas cards are also available from now. They come in four designs and cost €1.75 each or in a pack of six for 7 euros.
