During the pandemic, local charity Helping Hands in The Algarve has continued to support a number of good causes even though their usual means of income, such as quiz nights and meals, have been impossible.
Horse riding lessons at Pinetrees Riding Centre for young adults with cerebral palsy, sponsored by Helping Hands in The Algarve, have resumed so that the young people involved can continue to benefit from these activities.
HHA has also continued to support the Casa da Primeira Infância de Loulé young children's home by cleaning their above ground swimming pool, sorting the pool area and providing a new filter and covers. HHA Committee members have spent many hours at the children's home making the pool useable once again.
Two new projects have also been requested from HHA by the São Brás de Alportel Camara. Firstly, HHA has donated just over €250 for a local 16 year old boy to receive desperately needed glasses ready for the new school year. Unfortunately, his parents found themselves unable to fund this themselves. Secondly, HHA was asked for more than €800 to help a local 19 year old girl who is in desperate need of intensive dental care including extractions and dental protheses etc., to assist her transfer into the labour market and aiming towards self sufficiency.
With the usual sources of income unavailable, Helping Hands in The Algarve asked its members for donations. The response from a variety of members has been impressive. So far €817 has been donated towards supporting these worthwhile causes.
