Almancil International Rotary Club raised a total of 7,500 Euros at their recent golf tournament and raffle, which will enable the club to present Christmas food hampers to local people dependant on food donations distributed by Associaçao São Vicente de Paulo de São Lourenço in Almancil.
The club currently supports the Association with a monthly donation towards helping 65 families with food parcels.
A total of 80 golfers, (16 more than 2020) took part. The four members of the winning team were presented with their prize by Rotary President Volker Biebesheimer. Volker thanked club members John Slatter and Bill Browne, who organised the tournament for the 3rd year running and who worked so hard to make the event a success. A number of players have already signed up for 2022.
In addition to the hampers the funds will be used to assist other local charities which have been inundated with requests for help during the pandemic, and which the club has supported.
“During the year it’s been difficult to raise funds” said club President Volker Biebesheimer, “but thanks to the outstanding efforts by club members since restrictions were lifted and with generous contributions from our supporters we have been able to continue our efforts to help the local community especially when it comes to food donations.”
