World Day of Prayer Service 2025 - Fri 7th March

World Day of Prayer Service 2025 - Fri 7th MarchThe first Friday in March is the day designated as the World day of Prayer and this year it falls on Friday 7th March. The origins of this date back to the 19th Century when a group of Christian Women initiated a number of activities in support of the mission of Women both at home and abroad.

Over the years this has grown and developed into a worldwide female led global ecumenical movement of informed prayer and action. In 2025 the World Day of Prayer will be celebrated in over 146 Countries, in 91 Languages. The Cook Islands

The really “cool” aspect of the day is that it is truly world wide. On Friday 7th March, as the sun rises Services will begin in Samoa and travel around the world tracking, the sun across Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe and the Americas before finishing in American Samoa some 36 hours later.

Each year the service is prepared and written by a different Country and In 2025 it is the turn of the women of the Cook Islands. They have chosen the theme:  “ I made you wonderful” from Psalm 139, written by the Christian Women of the Cook Islands

In the Service The women share their struggle against Covid 19, the devaluing of their culture and the improvements in obstetric health care. They also emphasize the message that we are “fearfully and wonderfully” made in the image of God .

The stunning artwork chosen for the publicity surrounding the service was designed by Mother & Daughter team Tarani Napa and Tevairangi Napa and captures how their islands have been blessed with golden sun, clear skies abundant fresh produce both on land and sea and gems – the black pearls at the top of the artwork.

In 2025 The World Day of Prayer is being led by a number of representatives from Churches from every denomination across the Algarve. They look forward to welcoming you to this very special Service.
