You may already have heard of the success of one of Algarve History Associations' visiting pianists. Nikola Meeuwsen has won the top prize at the famous Queen Elizabeth competition in Brussels.
He has appeared at the Quintinha no fewer than eight times, beginning in 2016 when he was just 14 years old.
We have been privileged to witness his progress over nine years and at age 23 he has already scaled one of the pinnacles of his profession. The last concert he played for us in February this year was in fact a dry run for the Queen Elizabeth competition.
With his unusual capacity for self-improvement, he spent much of the next day listening to a recording of his own performance, with the aim of identifying areas for refinement. Student Concert
The last concert in our season is always a highlight – we derive enormous pleasure from the annual update of progress made by students at the Faro Conservatory. We have watched small eight-year olds mature and then graduate at the age of sixteen and have heard the progress that they have made on the keyboard.
Our relationship with the CRAMC (Conservatório Regional do Algarve Maria Campina) derives from our friendship with Irene Ainstein who teaches at the Conservatório. Irene makes her home available for these concerts, and it is particularly developmental for youngsters to perform before an audience of unknowns.
We invite you to share in this developmental process at the Student Concert on Sunday 8th June at 17:00 at Quintinha da Música. There will be a number of young performers at the keyboard, and probably a student on the violin who is about to continue her studies in Lisbon.
This concert at the reduced price of €20, the profits of which go to the Conservatório.
