Senescal Brewery, an independent craft brewery based in Castro Marim in the eastern Algarve, has won a silver medal at the 2026 CNCCA craft beer competition in Lisbon for its beer Brave Heart, marking the brewery’s fourth national medal in four consecutive years.
Brave Heart is a Wee Heavy Scotch Ale brewed with Portuguese heather and local pine needles, combining traditional Scottish brewing inspiration with ingredients from the Algarve landscape.
“Winning a fourth national medal is an incredible honour for a small independent brewery like ours,” said brewmaster Gabriel Silveira. “It makes the launch of our crowdfunding campaign even more meaningful as we invite the community to help build the Senescal Royal Taproom in Castro Marim.”
The announcement came just ahead of the brewery’s crowdfunding campaign launched on Tuesday, March 17th, which aims to raise €55,000 to expand brewing capacity and create the Senescal Royal Taproom — a space where locals, expats and visitors will be able to enjoy fresh craft beer, directly at the brewery.
Over the past few years Senescal Brewery has gradually built a reputation through the CNCCA national craft beer competition, becoming one of the most consistently recognised craft breweries in the eastern Algarve.
With the launch of the crowdfunding campaign, the brewery now invites the public to become part of the next chapter of the project.
