The heat broke on Thursday and left the good part behind: 29 on Saturday, 31 on Sunday, clear skies all three days, a light breeze and a sea still at 23 degrees. It is the weekend the Algarve stops performing for visitors and does things for itself, which is exactly when it is most worth being here.

Open Ateliers Olhão · Olhão centre, this afternoon to Sunday, free · Sixty-eight artists open their studios, and the ones without a studio have been lent empty shops in the old town. Opening party tonight at 6pm at República 14. Saturday is the long day, doors open until 8pm.
FAVA 2026 · Parque Municipal, Loulé, today to Sunday, free · Portugal's biggest vegan fair, a hundred exhibitors under the trees and five thousand meals planned. Vegan francesinhas, pastel de nata, ice cream, and not one plastic cup on the site.
Annual Free Fair of Santo Estêvão · Santo Estêvão, Tavira, tonight to Sunday, evenings · Three nights of the eastern Algarve's traditional autumn fair in a parish of a thousand people: stalls, grilled food, dancing, and the whole valley turning up. This is the real thing.
Portimão World Beer Groove · Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, Praia da Rocha, tonight from 6pm, tomorrow and Sunday from noon, free · First edition. Thirteen beers from Japan to Belgium to Porto, street food, chillout DJ sets at sunset over the Arade, then 70s to 2000s rock until close.
Fado at the Adro · Mexilhoeira Grande, Portimão, Sunday 8.30pm, free · Ana Marques and João Leote sing on the church forecourt with Portuguese guitar and viola, and the village serves caldo verde. The right way to close a weekend.
