Opening of the Inner Landscapes Exhibition - Sep 13

Opening of the Inner Landscapes Exhibition - Sep 13In recent years Olhão has been attracting more and more international artists of various backgrounds. Some of them are just passing through and others, inspired by the beautiful light and stunning views of the Ria Formosa, decided to make this picturesque fishing town with its rough edges their permanent place of residence.

As most artists have a tendency to flock together, it was no surprise that some of them decided to have a joint exhibition in the beautiful New Gallery of the Museu do Trajo in São Brás.

American born Jeff Carter and Swedish Cecilia Carter moved from the Azores to Olhão and soon met up with Thessa van der Voort, who hails from Amsterdam, The Netherlands but paints and lives most of her time in Olhão.

Jürgen Vijfschaft is a Dutch photographer and gallery owner whose most recent work is all about rough seashores and landscapes. Thessa introduced him to Erik van Lint, who also has the Dutch nationality and who has been living and painting in Quelfes, Olhão for over seven years.

The five of them set themselves the task to work with the theme ´Inner Landscapes` as their inspiration. This has resulted in very varied work, ranging from lyrical abstracts to vivid impressions of the beauty of the Ria Formosa.

So, about a year after the idea was born, we are delighted to invite you to the opening of this exhibition with paintings as well as photographs that display the artists´ reflections on ´Inner Landscapes´ in the broadest sense of the word.

The exhibition will be opened on Sunday 13 September at 20:00 by well-known Dutch novelist Tessa de Loo, who also resides in the Algarve. Her opening speech will be followed by some live music and poetry.

The works of art will be on display until 2 November in the New Gallery of the Museu do Trajo in São Brás.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

Open every day from 14h00 to 17h00 until November 2nd.
