ANPC and Safe Communities sign collaboration agreement

Safe CommunitiesOn 31st July 2014 Vitor Norberto de Morais Vaz Pinto, Commander of the ANPC (Civil Protection Agency) Algarve District, and David Thomas President Safe Communities Algarve signed a collaboration agreement at a ceremony held at the ANPC’s District Headquarters in Faro.

The agreement in the form of the protocol sets out a number of initiatives including establishing links on each organizations website; promotion of civil protection awareness through seminars, displays and in publicity material and further expanding on the SCA website the work of the ANPC and with direct links to its pages where fire prevention information and alerts can be found.

At the ceremony Commander Pinto said that he was very pleased to be signing the protocol which had been approved by the ANPC Headquarters in Lisbon, as this reflects the important need for all the community to be aware of civil protection.

David Thomas said that he felt this was an important step forward recognizing the close cooperation that existed between the two organizations illustrated through the recent joint seminars and displays in the Algarve concerning wildfire prevention and environmental protection. He added as a result of these activities there had been very positive feedback from those attending and importantly some issues of concern to residents had been identified and were in the process of being addressed.

Talks have already started on a series of similar displays/seminars for 2015.

Others attending the ceremony included Abel Gomes Deputy ANPC Commander and Lilia Martins Board Member of Safe Communities Algarve.
