The BMW Group closed 2013 with record sales in Portugal. In the year just ended BMW sold 7,629 cars, an increase of 20% compared to 2012.
The total was bolstered by good sales of the highly popular Mini which were up 18% on 2013.
BMW gained its best market share ever in Portugal at 7.2% making it the forth best selling brand in the country. The Mini’s market share of 1.2% was its largest ever.
2013 has seen some market growth with total sales of all brands of 105,898 units, an increase of around 11.1% over a dire 2012. The BMW Group managed to sell 9,578 units across all segments with its best selling 3-Series car retailing at over 40,000 euros.
BMW motorcycles registered sales growth of 21% going against the market segment which fell 16.7% in 2013 over the previous year, according to the Automobile Association of Portugal. The market also was down for mopeds (-24.2%), and for quad bikes (-20.9%).
Mercedes Portugal closed 2013 at number 5 in the brand ranking for passenger cars, according to the Automobile Association of Portugal, with 7,024 units sold.
