Zoomarine 'goes green' to replant trees lots to forest fires

zoomarineZoomarine is funding volunteers to plant 5,800 trees to make up some of the losses resulting from the fires this summer.

Teams are to join "Operation Green Mountain" on November 5th and plant the trees at Herdade do São Bom Homem, Silves.

Tree species in the replanting include arbutus, oaks, pine and cyprus.

"Although it is not (yet) possible to replant everything that was burned, we believe that planting 5,800 trees will help a bit' according to a Zoomarine spokesman.

This initiative is open to the public, meeting at 8:30 am at the entrance of Zoomarine in a day's work that will finish at 16:30. The challenge is that "helpers join this forest party even for 15 or 30 minutes," sat the organisers.

Zoomarine will provide transport and trees with volunteers asked to bring motivation, clothing, gloves and suitable footwear and, if possible, a hoe."

This initiative has the support of Água Serra da Estrela, Paulo Manuel Alves Sequeira Unipessoal, Lda and Silves council.
