Temperatures are set to drop sharply this coming weekend, by 4 to 8 °C according to Portugal’s weather service.
Due to a depression off the west coast west of the Iberian Peninsula, which slowly is shifting south, there will be intermittent rain from today, November 1st, until the weekend, most likely in coastal regions. This is deliberately designed to annoy those wishing to hang out their washing.
The current most pleasing daytime temperature will reoccur until the weekend, ranging between 22 and 26 °C in coastal regions and between 15 and 22 °C inland, but this is all due to change at the weekend - for the worse.
From Friday the 4th, a cold front will start to cover the country bringing weekend rain throughout and a drop in temperatures of between 4 and 8°C.
On this day last year, torrential rain hit the Algarve, leaving Albufeira's downtown area largely under water. The damage cost €25 million to repair and the council announced only yesterday that the new flood defence plan is to be discussed in a meeting to decide whether it should be advanced.
The person responsible for the inadequate Albufeira defences, former mayor Desiderio Silva, has remained silent over accusations that by ignoring the advice of the Algarve's hydrographical board, he deliberate took risks by building his unauthorised flood defence scheme which, when tested in anger, cost so many millions in damage to shops, houses and council infrastructure.
