The neighbourhood of Vale Mangude, Albufeira, rocked with the explosion of an ATM at a supermarket this morning which destroyed the machine and blew out the shop window.
Thieves had filled the cash machine with gas and set light to a fuse which ignited the mixture, causing the machine's almost total destruction.
Luckily there were no casualties, according to police who have called for more witnesses.
The case has is being investigated by the Judicial Police after locals called the GNR to the scene.
The police spent this morning collecting clues and hearing witnesses, but it was not possible to find out much about the crime nor have poice officers been able to announce the amount of cash that the thieves managed to take from the wrecked ATM.
