Faro council to spend €200,000 promoting local Christmas shopping

faro2Faro council has got in early with its announcement that the shopping area of Baixa Faro will be the place to go this Christmas with a series of events starting the day after the lights go on, on November 25th.

Faro council is paying the €200,000 promotional bill and has partners in the Association of Baixa de Faro Businesses, the Association of Trade and Services of the Algarve Region (ACRAL) and of the Association of Hoteliers of the Algarve (AIHSA), as well as municipal companies FAGAR and Ambifaro.

Faro’s mayor, Rogério Bacalhau, pointed out that this is yet another step in a strategy to boost Faro's traditional trade in a programme that started two years ago when the opening of the IKEA store and associated shopping mall became inevitable.

Faro’s Christmas programme has more than 50 initiatives in the historic area of ​​the city from November 26 to December 24 and ends only in 2017 after a New Year party - and yes, Father Christmas will be visiting...
