A simulated fire on a boat moored at Albufeira marina was dealt with in an efficient and timely manner by emergency service personnel on excercise.
The test of response times and essential actions was deemed totally acceptable against stiff criteria outlined in the Safety and Internal Emergency Plans for Albufeira Marina.
The local Bombeiros were there along with the Albufeira Marine Police and other services to deal with pretend casualties.
The drill was aimed at "enhancing and optimising" the speed of the intervention teams and other emergencies services having to deal with a fire on a berthed vessel, with injured people and to complicate matters, a spill of toxic and flammable products at a vassel berthed between two others.
After the drill, the assembled men in smart uniforms decided the exercise had proved to be satisfactory, explaining that "such actions must be developed in order to periodically train services in set procedures to combat this type of incident."
