Algarve hotel staff to be trained in emergency first aid

heartThe Algarve’s regional tourist board and the Algarve Regional Health Administration have signed a collaboration that will train hotel workers in life-saving techniques and the use of defibrillation equipment.

The goal is to save the lives of any guest, or staff member, in any of the Algarve’s hotels who has a heart attack or is suffering from a life-threatening event.

The two organisations intend to provide hotel staff at all levels with the practical skills needed to enable them to respond with confidence there and then, should a guest have a medical emergency.

According to the protocol, hotel staff also are invited to attend courses, seminars and conferences that address these same themes.

"As the main tourist destination in the country, the Algarve attracts thousands of visitors every year. The excellence of our tourist offer carried through to the health care, guest safety and the emergency services that we offer.

“With this pioneering protocol, we intend to prepare professionals in the tourism sector for emergency situations, taking care of the health and well-being of tourists who choose the Algarve for their holidays," said Desidério Silva, the ubiquitous president of the tourist board.
