The lights at the recently developed Colina do Revelim leisure are in Castro Marim have been vandalised as thieves stole the copper wiring.
Over 40 street lights were damaged beyond repair affecting the presentation of the military structure built by D. João IV which is the main attraction for tourist visiting the town. The council reckons the damage will cost thousands to repair.
The council is keen that the local police catch those responsible for this crime which has "seriously injured municipal funds and has destroyed an amenity that was there for all to enjoy.”
The Colina do Revelim de Santo António is at a prime location overlooking the nature reserve of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António and recently underwent development work designed by the architect José Alberto Alegria which transform the hillside into an area combining leisure and culture for the benefit of tourists, locals and those looking the the hill at night from afar.
