On Thursday, about 75% of the fishermen inspected in the Faro area by the Maritime Police, were fined for not wearing their lifejackets.
The professional fishermen were on their boats and should wear a lifejacket at all times.
The day before, the Maritime Police targeted anglers along the Costa Vicentina where "a series of awareness-raising actions were carried out with a view to people adopting behavior and safety measures that could contribute to the reduction of accidents or, if this occurs, increases the likelihood of being saved."
The main advice that the Maritime Police gave out to the fishermen is that they always wear a lifejacket; avoid fishing alone; avoid high-risk locations; do not go fishing when bad weather is forecast and to secure themselves so that, in case they fall, they do not end up in the sea.
Torn away from this vital work with the region's fishermen, the Portimão Maritime Police today recovered a 7.8kg pack of hashish from the German Beach (Forte de S. João) in Albufeira.
The consignment was well packaged in a waterproof outer and could have been in the sea for some time but was well preserved and still saleable.
Searches will continue over the coming days, with several Maritime Police officers scouring the area for similar packages, both on land and at sea. The recovered hashish was handed over to the Judicial Police, hopefully for an in depth analysis of its inherent qualities.
