For those readers that are fed up with Armação de Pêra flooding every time there is some serious rainfall, the council has a plan.
The Pluvial Drainage Plan will be presented to the public at a meeting on February 10th at the local ‘Os Armacenenses’ football club at 6pm.
Silves Council will run the public session and want to get comments and suggestions from the public, even though the work alreday has been awarded to a specialist firm.
The municipality says that the main objective of the new plan was to find and adopt solutions to reduce the flood problems in the old part of Armação de Pêra.
These will include ‘strengthening existing infrastructures, increasing reserve capacity, and the installation of tidal valves,' amongst other technical wizardry.
The council also wants to rebuild the rainwater discharge channel into the Ribeira de Alcantarilha and to install a pumping system.
If this all sound bewlideringly technical, help will be at hand as HIDRA - Hydraulics and Environment, Lda., will be able to explain the work in detail, work, it seems, that it already has been contracted to undertake.
