Pay by the minute café

coffeecupA new concept café has opened in London.

Rather than charging for an individual cup of coffee or tea, café Ziferblat provides these, and more, for free.

Customers are asked instead to pay 3p per minute, chalking up £1.80 for an hour.

The founders say that “everything is free, except the time you spend there”. This includes unlimited coffee, tea, cake, biscuits and vegetable dishes.

Patrons are even allowed to bring in their own food and drink.

Access to wi-fi is also laid on for free, enabling people to work on their computers.

An array of old-fashioned alarm clocks greets customers who take one to time their stay.

Ziferblat, which translates as clock, is a concept that has already proved popular in Russia. Its first foray into the UK is in London's Old Street where it has created an elegant, front room style space. A spokesperson said that freedom of individuality is their overriding concept.
