Faro and Silves GNR have discovered six greenhouses used for growing cannabis and have arrested two British men on drugs charges.
The geenhouses were at a property in Tunes and at a luxury vila in Galé, Albufeira. The GNR carried out searches at the properties and discovered the greenhouses.
Packaged cannabis weighing over 30 kilos was taken as evidence, plus 480 cannabis plants, 18.3 grammes of magic mushrooms, four precision scales, three TVs, two mobile phones, a laptop, a camera, €785 in cash, lighting systems, and irrigation, ventilation and extraction systems for the greenhouses.
Officers also took away fertilizer and other things used to grown and then prepare the drugs for sale. The cannabis is estimated to be worth around €100,000.
The searches had backup from the feared Intervention Detachment to ensure no funny business and were triggered when police spotted a building in Tunes with its windows covered in tin foil and an extractor fan system working away.
The detainees, aged 30 and 31, are shortly to appear in court and will be lucky to get bail as they are non-Portuguese.
