The sale of luxury, super-sports cars is suddenly going off the scale in Portugal, with the largest percentage increases registered for years.
Says ACAP, the country’s automobile association, four brands have boomed by more than 50% - Aston Martin actually seeing sales rise in the first four months of the year by a whopping 150%.
Porsche is second on the list, with a total of 65 sales (an 82.9% increase on the same period last year). Maserati has seen business up by 72.7%, involving 19 of the Italian manufacturer’s signature models, and Britain’s Jaguar is celebrating the purchase by national drivers of no less than 219 vehicles in the first trimester of 2017.
Going the other way however are sales of Ferrari, Lambourghini and Bentley, with Lambourghini not managing to sell one car in the first few months of 2017.
Elsewhere, car sales generally are up, but not spectacularly (2.5%), with Renault, Peugeot , Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW being people’s most popular choices.
