No witnesses have come forward to help Maritime Police unravel the reasons for the assault and stabbing of a 42-year-old man from Côte d'Ivoire on a wooden walkway at Praia da Rocha beach in Portimão.
The victim was stabbed several times by a group of people and was left with serious injuries.
The violent crime happened on Sunday morning at around 7:00 am and the man was left with wounds to his head, back and legs.
Despite his injuries, he remained conscious and was assisted on the spot by Portimão firemen and an emergency ambulance team before being taken to Portimão hospital.
The Côte d'Ivoire national could not provide much detail about the incident and claimed he did not know his attackers.
The victim alleged that the individuals left quickly after the attack and could offer no reason for their violence.
Although Praia da Rocha is currently full of tourists and there are restaurants in that area, the fact that the crime happened early in the day meant that there probably were no witnesses.
The Portimão Maritime Police is investigating the case.
