The environmental organisation, Almargem, has organised a morning of activities at Lagoa dos Salgados between Galé and Armação de Pêra, the beautiful nature reserve that remains threatened by a 539 hectare tourist complex that includes hotels, golf courses and apartment complexes all authorised by Silves council.
On May 13th, a walk to look at the birds and plants (9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.), and a rubbish collection drive will occupy the morning.
Then, at 12:30 p.m., in the parking area at Praia Grande, there will be an informal debate about the current threats to the area and the environmental crime that has been passed by the State and endorsed by Silves council.
All are welcome to enjoy this area while it still exists and to get a campaign update from Almargem which is pushing to have this unique wetland zone re-designated as a nature reserve.
The ever-rapacious developers, Finalgarve, intend to clear the site despite being faced with a 33,713 signature petition to preserve this area and a court instruction to recommission the environmental impact assessment.
