A GNR patrol arrested a man who was stealing from hotel rooms in Albufeira.
The 31-year-old was caught after reports of thefts were acted on by a GNR patrol in the early hours of Wednesday, May 3. GRN personnel caught the man red-handed inside one of the hotel rooms.
The burglar tried to escape, but was grabbed by burly officers who discovered the man had, "several objects taken from rooms of the hotel, including watches, mobile phones and cash, objects that have since been returned to their legitimate owners."
The detainee was well known to the local police due to his history of thefts.
During the morning of April 30, the Public Security Police (PSP) detained two young men suspected of robbing people at knife point in the Praia da Rocha area.
A foreign student living in the Algarve was robbed by two young men in Praia da Rocha. He went to Portimão police station and a Rapid Intervention Team was sent out.
At dawn, the police received another call at the police station to report another robbery, also in Praia da Rocha. The perpetrators were described by both victims as having the same characteristics. The men were spotted trying to rob another victim. The Rapid Invervention Team arrested them.
One of the detainees has been arrested several times for previous robberies and was under a court order to sign in at the Portimão PSP station every day.
On the night of 3 May, a PSP patrol in Portimão detained a 28-year-old Portuguese man for dealing drugs. Enough hashish for 293 spliffs, €1,140, a flick knife, a kitchen knife, electronic scales, a mobile phone and various other articles were seized, all of which related to his illegal trade.
Also for drug trafficking, on May 2, the PSP in Lagos detained a 36-year-old foreigner in possession of 4,608 packs of heroin, 53 wraps of cocaine, €4,245, a car, mobile phones, electronic scales and packaging and trafficking material.
On the night of May 4, the Portimão PSP arrested a foreign citizen, aged 43, for stealing from a car. The suspect was grabbed by the owner of the vehicle who pinned him down until the police arrived.
The PSP in Olhão detained two Portuguese citizens, aged 46 and 34, for driving a car while completely drunk.
The reason for publicising this list of arrests is to show that the police are out and about dealing with the drug suppliers, burglars and robbers that blight many lives and officers continue to make arrests under often dangerous circumstances.
