An accident at a Silves railway crossing has injured a couple in their early 80s after their pickup truck was hit by a train.
The regular service was approaching Poço Barreto station en route from Faro when it hit the vehicle at 13:33 today.
The accident happened on the level crossing where the barriers only stretch across one lane of the road, the favourite game for many being to weave across the railway line when the barriers are down.
The pick-up was crushed against a wall and has been written off.
The shocked occupants were taken to hospital in Faro but are said only to have suffered minor injuries.
The pan-Algarve railway service was put on hold until just before 15:00.
