The Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, Vila Real de Santo António, has won the title of Best Portuguese Golf Club of 2017, adding to an impressive list of recent awards.
The latest accolade was from golfers from across Europe who voted on the Leadingcourses.com website and gave the course a score of 9.15 out of a possible 10.
Golfer's Choice rankings are made up from the opinions of 350,000 golfers from various European countries.
The conditions of this Jack Niclaus 18-hole course including overall maintenance, quality of service, facilities and value for money all counted towards the latest prize.
"Being recognised as the best golf resort in Portugal and one of the best in Europe is a huge honour and the benefit is in the increasing number of foreign clients who come to us," said Salvador Lucena, general manager of the Monte Rei Golf & Country Club.
For Luís Gomes, mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, this award "shows that the commitment to quality tourism that has been implemented in the municipality is a winning strategy reflected in the excellent hotel occupancy rates registered throughout the year."
The countryside resort set in over 1,000 acres, opened ten years ago, is 15 minutes from the beach, and has accommodation, villas, restaurants and swimming pools.
