In May this year, the Algarve’s hotels saw the highest occupancy rates since the year 2000 and up 4.4% compared to May, 2016.
Tourists from the United Kingdom, Ireland and France contributed most to a 73% May occupancy rate, according to the region’s hotels association.
According to preliminary data released by AHETA, this is the second consecutive month with record figures not seen since the turn of the millennium.
In April, the hotel occupancy rate in the Algarve was 65.4%, the highest since 2000 when the rate was 66.1%.
The British (+ 12.9%), Irish (+ 15.5%) and French (+ 7.2%) markets contributed most to the May increase, staying in Tavira (+ 15.1%), Monte Gordo / Vila Real de Santo António (+ 5.5%) and Vilamoura / Quarteira / Quinta do Lago (+ 5.2%).
In Albufeira, the main tourist area of the Algarve, there was a rise of 3.1%.
