Government deliberately slows traffic on completed sections of the EN125

roadworksThe council of Vila do Bispo is pleased that the road works in its area now are completed but now that the traffic cones and workmen have gone, locals now are complaining to the council that the EN125 road has been designed to slow down traffic to a frustrating crawl in many sections.

Rotas do Algarve Litoral had been instructed by Infraestrutura de Portugal to paint solid white lines along sections of renewed road where previously overtaking has been allowed. This leaves only three sections of road where vehicles can overtake between Lagos and Vila do Bispo and guarantees frustration and risky driver behaviour.

Locals are annoyed that anyone stuck behind a tractor will have to sit in line for ages, despite no oncoming traffic and a clear view ahead.

The mayor of Vila do Bispo agrees and has said "it’s ridiculous, this continuous white line feature on the EN125 throughout our territory."

The mayor already has asked for the road markings to be repainted to show more passing places and also has demanded other changes to the work left behind by the contractors as many small access roads are now difficult safely to negotiate.

Vila do Bispo mayor, Adelino Soares, said he is discussing these issues with those responsible at Infraestruturas de Portugal and says he believes that it will be possible to find solutions that improve the completed work.

Where have you been Chip to miss all the humps and bumps of the cobbled pedestrian crossings? If you don't slow down to 15 kph your head could go through the roof.

Quoting Chip:
How long before we get UK-style humps and chicanes every few hundred metres?

 ...you missed the mis-set 'safety-cameras', yard-deep potholes & bunged-up storm drains - 2017 UK leads the world in them

Totally a money making opportunity for the gnr transito to boost fine incomes which they make a commision on so you could say the whole system is corrupt? If the road is safe for overtaking and it has no overtaking white lines surely drivers will be tempted to make wild cat over taking manouvers thus causing more accident. I love the pre EU days when Portugal had more holes in the road but it was FREE of being a police state. Too much control is bad and people get fed up and end up leaving like me.In one day in Albufeira i saw 5 different GNR police stops checking peoples papers. I remember i got stopped 3 times in ONE DAY this was the day i said its time to move away from this state control.Love PORTUGAL but hate the control.
