Lisbon restaurant accused of ‘taking the peixe’

douradaFishWith a price of €140 for one 'dourada,' (golden bream), a restaurant in Lisbon has hit the headlines as the capital’s biggest rip-off.

It gets worse: €250 each for a mixed seafood dish for two, and €5 for a beer. This are the sorts of prices being charged to tourists at Made in Correeiros, a restaurant in downtown Lisbon.

Tripadvisor is filling up with a basketfull of complaints, 500 to date, about the price of food and the way the restaurant tricks diners and hides the cost of dishes.

Consumer watchdog, Deco, is on the case and has brought the restaurant to the attention of the feared food investigator, ASAE.

"We ordered seafood rice, a dish they recommended to us. Although it was not on the menu we thought it would be around €30, since the octopus rice - which was on the menu - cost €15. In the end, the price of the meal was €250 euros! Unbelievable ... ", wrote one unhappy tourist on Tripadvisor.

Consumers are reporting that Made in Correeiros "hides the prices, foists dishes on and then you will receive a bill that will give you ten good dinners in any other restaurant in Lisbon. Fuck these people," wrote a Portuguese customer on the Zomato website.

The tricks are, according to Trip Advisor users, mostly used when the customers are tourists.

Deco confirmed that "there have been complaints from consumers," adding that they already have a lawyer who is preparing a case to send to ASAE.

A coffee priced at €1.30 is available, should you wish to drop by for a chat about the dish of the day.
