New British Ambassador appointed to Portugal

BritishEmbassyLisbonLogoA notice from the British Embassy today advises that Mr Chris Sainty has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic in succession to Ms Kirsty Hayes.

Mr Sainty will take up his appointment in the summer of 2018.

Let's face it. If Portugal was a really useful plum posting for the UK it would have the up and coming whizz kids of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office competing for it.
Like so many previously, this guy is clearly in his twilight hours and presumably had asked for one of Pres. Trumps more obvious s**thole countries like Haiti or Burundi. Somewhere he could make a positive difference for British Citizens, but they had been taken. So he is coming to Portugal, to achieve - like so many of us already here - precisely nothing.
