VRSA starts sports complex development

vrsa2Vila Real de Santo António council is pressing ahead with the redevelopment of the south side of the city with the construction of new sports facilities.

The ambitious project will see the construction of three new sports areas and a retail area where 40 jobs are predicted.

The operation includes the construction of two new sports facilities, one covered and one outdoors, with associated changing rooms to replace the current sports facilities that are in a state of disrepair. The new zone will be landscaped and a commercial space built.

The total investment is €2.3 million and will create 40 new jobs when finished, as well as employing labour to build the new facilities.

Conceição Cabrita, the mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, said, "this work will benefit not only the population, but also all sports clubs, associations and individual athletes, who are to gain new training areas and new facilities with excellent conditions."

In return for the installation of the commercial unit, a third sports centre will be built along with ‘other compensations’ that will help the council’s finances.

The works is due to take (an ambitious) four months and will start later this week.

If you are coming from Spain to train at this new facility your journey by car should be a normal experience, but if you are travelling from anywhere in the Algarve to VRSA, your journey will be dangerous and uncomfortable as you drive along the infamous national road, the EN125 East of Tavira. Which is now only fit for horse and cart journeys as the surface has disintegrated into crumbling stones and dust..
