January Algarve road deaths fifth highest in Portugal

INEM125The January road death toll in the Algarve was higher this January than in 2017 with five people killed and 10 seriously injured in road accidents.
 
The National Road Safety Authority’s figures show one more death and four more seriously injured road users than over the same period last year.
The Algarve region’s roads showed the fifth highest death rate in the country, behind the districts of Setúbal (9 road deaths), Lisbon, Oporto and Braga (6 deaths in each).
 
During the first 31 days of 2018, there have been 627 accidents in the Algarve, an average of slightly more than 20-per-day.
 
Compared with January 2017, this is a decrease of 50 accidents for the month.
 
In the country as a whole, during January there were 10,305 accidents resulting in 45 deaths and 121 serious injuries.
