Nature tourism in the Algarve - Odiana makes steady progress

guadianamiradouroOdiana - the lower Guadiana development association - has released a new and rather charming promotional video about the area.(HERE)

The film highlights the authenticity of the territory and promotes "another Algarve" to tourists, investors and tour operators - and also for residents.
Launched at the BTL 2018 tourism fair, the video obviously aims to show off the territory's appeal for tourists.

This "different Algarve" emphasises sparsely populated areas as it is part of the "Tourism in Low Density Areas - Baixo Guadiana" project, funded by CRESC Algarve 2020.

This project's key purpose is 'to value and promote existing goods and services, and to foster inter-company cooperation.'

The easternmost area of the Algarve, along the lower reaches of the Guadiana river, successfully has been carving a niche for quieter, outdoor tourism, leaving the beach and bar areas of the central Algarve to attract their own types of customer.

Bedevilled by desertification, the steady emergence of tourism as an economic force already has brought social benefits to the lower Guadiana area – mainly as more people have jobs.

Algarve Nature Week is still plugging along despite a poor start some four years ago. The start date this year is April 13 with exhibitors and activities to take part in on the water and on land - all related to nature.

‘One Nature, One Thousand Emotions’ is this year’s strapline and the promise is for almost 70 tourism businesses to be exhibiting over a ten day period.

The event will be held in the Praça do Infante and the Jardim da Constitución in Lagos

"Nature tourism has been experiencing rapid global growth in the last few decades and this is one of the reasons for the continued investment in this product," said Desidério Silva, the head of the region's tourist board.

"Due to the high importance of nature and landscape of the Algarve in Europe, we return with the Algarve Nature Week, which we hope will contribute to the increase in trips motivated by the desire to interact with the Algarve's nature," said Desidério Silva, whose staff are organising the event.

We choose to live in the campo away from the tourists for a reason , please keep them down on the coast , the small amount of money they will bring will not compensate for the destruction, litter, noise and inconvenience that will come with them.
