Over 13,000 travellers using the European Best Destinations portal have chosen Praia de Carvoeiro as the winner in the best European beaches of the year category.
Lagoa council says that "this picture postcard beach in Lagoa appears side by side with famous beaches in countries such as Greece, Croatia, England, Ireland, Spain and France."
European Best Destinations refers to Carvoeiro as "a small town full of charm" and describes its beach as "one of the most beautiful" its readers visited on their European travels.
The description of this winning beach, reads, “Carvoeiro is probably one of the most beautiful places we have seen during our travels in Europe. Once on the spot get ready to be stunned by this place, you will soon decide to empty your bank account, get rid of your return flight ticket and stay in this little corner of paradise for the rest of your life.
"The sea is beautiful, the water is neither too hot nor too cold, the waves can be strong or on the contrary, gentle enough for paddling and discovering the coves around.”
Other of the Algarve’s beaches made the final list, including at Armação de Pêra, Armona, Praia da Marinha and Praia da Cova Redonda.

Couldn't agree more. Sharp shells as sand, crumbling cliffs and exposed rocks in swimming area, tacky tourism spilling over from backshore..hardly Utopia. Funny business tourism..
