Faro Council, quite rightly, has the huff with the waste collection service from Algar whose new ecopoints are placed in such a way as to 'disrespect mobility,' as well as being the old-fashioned type, hadly in keeping with the regional capital's desired image.
The Council has sent a stern letter to Algar about the stupidity of placing recycling bins on pavements that normally are used by people to walk along, adding that the bins are the old type and hardly in keeping with the image of the regional capital which is spending much time and money on upgrading its urban image.
The Council has sent a stern letter to Algar about the stupidity of placing recycling bins on pavements that normally are used by people to walk along, adding that the bins are the old type and hardly in keeping with the image of the regional capital which is spending much time and money on upgrading its urban image.
The Council points out that some of the bins occupy parking spaces and often are right in front of buildings, blocking otherwise pleasant views.
The old style bins, "are in radical contrast to the new wave of underground collection points used by (the council’s own services company), Fagar over the past four years, which has greatly improved the collection efficiency and the urban environment, as well as the city's mobility.”
Algar, says the Council, failed to consult with the council on whose streets and pavements these bins have been dumped, which it finds incomprehensible and reveals a complete lack of interest in municipal management, in the communities that live here and those who visit the city.
"Algar should be ensuring the collection of waste is done in the most environmentally correct and sustainable way. This clearly is not what is happening at the moment," concludes an irate Council which also is a shareholder in the Algar waste business.
