Airport bus service to tourist hotspots announced by Algarve mayors

FaroAirportFrontThe Algarve’s mayors’ group has approved the opening of a tender for the creation of a bus service between Faro Airport and the region’s main tourist centres.

The group, AMAL, has been managing the Algarve’s transport system since 2016 and only now has decided that facilitating the transport of tourists to where they actually are staying might be a sensible idea.

To the detriment of taxi drivers, transfer companies and Uber, a tender will be launched to contract a single transport company to run a series of routes for five years to serve this tourist market.

The tender will not be launched until October 2018.

In addition to this new transport service for tourists, the network will include 'a redefinition of the existing routes and schedules, improving travel options from inland to the coastal areas," hope the region's mayors.

This new road transport concession, states AMAL, “guarantees the improvement of environmental sustainability, with modern buses, more efficient buses in terms of energy consumption,” and not before time.

Why are the simple solutions ALWAYS the best. Long overdue.

Presumably the bus service will make several stops en route, so maybe cheaper but more time consuming, which is something people don't want after a long journey. So many transfer companies offer good rates and private transfers inclusive of baby seats, golf bags etc. so well worth the extra I think. Everyone beats the taxi rank price from Faro.

Amazing this has not happened years ago.

And no doubt the Eastern Algarve won't be included - maybe Tavira but they won't bother with Vila Real de Santo Antonio.

how about a single line train shuttle to the airport. That would bring more people into Faro ( The capital of the Algarve) and make use of the actual train service.

Lightbulb moment ... been living in the dark ages for years! Most airports in popular tourist countries have these routes.

It's about time that they are doing this. Unfortunately it won't be available until the Fall
