Portugal’s weather is verging on the tropical with the hot weather bringing showers and thunderstorms to some regions.
Almost every area of the mainland had a very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet radiation on Tuesday, according to the weather service which gives a reading of UV 9 for the Algarve, one point off maximum danger. High readings will continue.
The IPMA recommends sunglasses with UV filter lenses, hat, T-shirt, umbrella and sunscreen, and says its best that children are not exposed to the sun.
Northern regions today are a bit cloudy with a gentle breeze with the central and southern regions starting with cloud and finishing the day with full on sunshine, except in the western Algarve where some cloud will persist.
Showers and thunderstorms are predicted for the central region, bringing cloud and humidity.
The highs are to decrease slightly along the west coast and in the Algarve with Faro down a degree of two, to 26°C - then it’s up to 28°C for the next week and cloudless skies from Saturday onwards.
Nighttime temperatures are 18 to 20°C for the next week, at least.
As for rain in the Algarve, there is a 10% chance on Wednesday and a 17% chance of Thursday, followed by negligible percentages for at least the following ten days.
