Summer has arrived - rather later than usual - but it officially has started, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere which is predicting endless sunny days of which memories are made.
Maximum temperatures for the forseeable future will range from 22ºC in the north, Viana do Castelo and Porto, to 30ºC in Castelo Branco, Évora, Beja, Setúbal and the Algarve.
The nighttime chilliness now have left us, unless you live in Guarda of course, with Faro dropping only to 17% overnight from now on through the season.
Alongside the rise in temperature is a rise in UV readings. According to the IPMA, all districts in mainland Portugal - with the exception of Coimbra and Porto that are at 'high risk' - are at 'very high risk' from UV rays.
The recommendations from the weather service include the time-honoured and often ignored exhortations that beachgoers use sunglasses with UV filters, don a wide-brimmed titfer, wear at least a T-shirt, use a sun-shade and plaster on some high factor sunscreen.
The forecast across the Algarve for the next ten days is: zero chance of rain, 30 ºC in the day, 16-18 ºC at night and full-on sun.
