TAP boss scoops award and praises workers

tapTAP’s driving force, picked up an award in the Finance category of the Airline Strategy Awards, a ceremony held in London that recognises excellence in management.

"By awarding this to TAP, the panel of world aviation business experts who make up the Airline Business Awards jury, highlights the importance of the €348 million investment made by Atlantic Gateway in TAP and the way it has contributed to that the company in reversing the negative results. TAP is experiencing a strong increase in the number of passengers transported, is going for growth in new markets and is modernising its fleet," read a TAP statement.

The prize was awarded to TAP in the Finance category and was received by David Neeleman, who, through Atlantic Gateway, is a major shareholder in the formerly State-owned airline.

"Those who truly deserve this prize are the workers. They are the key to TAP's success. This important international recognition honors us and further motivates us for the important challenges we continue to face, "said David Neeleman at the time.

The jury highlighted the fact that, under the new ownership structure, TAP was able to increase its market share in the connections between Lisbon and continental Europe from 38% to 48%, while consolidating its leading position across the South Atlantic and developing its business between Brazil and Europe.
