inem

Another head-on collision on Portugal’s roads, this one on the IC1 near Ourique, in which two people died just after 2am on Thursday morning.

The crash, near the Monte Negro junction at Panóias, was between two good vehicles, one was transporting meat. Both drivers died at the scene.

This early morning accident follows one on Monday morning on the IC8 at Pombal in which six men died on impact. (HERE)

According to TVI, the two drivers in the Ourique crash were from the Loulé area of the Algarve.

José Lourenço, 52, was heading south, with a truck loaded with meat and destined for Tavira. The other truck, empty and heading back to Lisbon, was driven by Aníbal Franganito, 40.

Their bodies were transported to the Medical-Legal Office in Beja, where they will be autopsied.

The GNR is still trying to figure out how this collision occurred.

The National Civil Protection Authority reported the number of fire service and GNR personnel at the scene, 12, and said the road was reopened at 11.15 this morning after being closed for almost nine hours.

How? The GNR need to take a drive on the IC1 and 125 to see how. It's blatantly obvious to me.
