French visitors boost September's Algarve hotel figures to above 90% occupancy

tivoliThe Algarve hotel occupancy figures for September are through, showing a year-on-year rise of 2.9% to an impressive 91.1%.

According to the data from AHETA, the Algarve hoteliers’ association, the growth was mainly due to the number of Portuguese nationals choosing to come to the Algarve for their late summer breaks.

The analysis shows this group up 12.2% in a year but it’s the French that are really developing a taste for the Algarve’s hotels with 26.7% more of them here in September than last year.

The number of visitors to the region from the UK continues to decline with a fall of 3.9% in September but the Dutch market fell significantly, a full 21% with the Irish tailing off by 6.8%.

According to the AHETA, since the beginning of the year, the overall occupation rate in the Algarve’s hotels has fallen by 0.9% compared to 2017, but the turnover so far is up by 2.9%.
