Dredging starts in Tavira's Gilão river

TaviratempBridgeDocapesca has authorised the dredging to begin in parts of the Gilão river in Tavira to enable fishing boats to continue to use the river to unload their catches.

The investment of €281,650 will enable to removal of up to 43,000 m³ and take an estimated 45 days.

According to Docapesca, the work is aimed at reestablishing the facilities needed for the boats to moor and unload their catches.

This work is part of the Boat Reorganisation Project for the Gilão River area, which includes the refurbishment of the moorings along the right bank of the river, between the Market and the Ponte dos Descobrimentos.

"These structures include five piers for the landing of the fish, for the operation of the maritime-tourist companies, for getting aboard the ferry to Tavira Island, for the use of professional fishing boats and for fuel supply," states Docapesca.
