Guadiana Eurocity partners prepare for some serious EU funding

guadianaThe Guadiana Eurocity, a cooperation between Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Councils, officially has been has been recognised as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation and now can apply for EU funding.

"We believe that the Eurocity of the Guadiana has ample possibilities of constructing a strategy for the development of the territory, trying to mitigate the limitations of the three municipalities. By acting together, we gain scale and boost our goals," says Luís Romão at the inaugural general meeting of the Iberian Network of Transfrontier Entities.

At the meeting, the financing lines were presented to which RIET members can apply, notably from post-2020 funds allocated for this sort of cross-border cooperation.

The Eurocity partners are developing a tourism brand that extends beyond the immediate banks of the Rio Guadiana and are developing joint tourism infrastructure that should give economies of scale to each of the Councils.

This was the first meeting of RIET at which Eurocity has participated since it was recognised as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation by the State Secretariat for Development and Cohesion, back in February 2018.
