A fire broke out early on Sunday morning at a restaurant in Altura, Castro Marim.
The blaze at the Girassol restaurant started in an annex and, due to last night’s high winds, the flames spread rapidly, destroying the whole building.
The restaurant annex, opened 30-years ago, was all laid out for a party booked for Sunday but after the fire, only the walls were left standing.
The owner, Fernando Girassol, said he does not believe the fire was started deliberately and that the cause is likely to have been a short circuit that set light to the wooden annex.
The Police anyway will be investigating in case it’s an insurance scam.
The owner, Fernando Girassol, does not suspect a criminal hand and believes there may have been a short circuit in the wooden annex. The facility was closed and without employees when the fire broke out.
Located on the EN125, Girassol is one of the best known restaurants in the area and the owner says he certainly want to rebuild and reopen.
