The University of Algarve campus was evacuated late on Wednesday morning after the police received a phone call saying that a bomb had been planted.
The threat was taken with the utmost seriousness by the Public Security Police who ensured that several of the university’s buildings on the Penha campus were cleared.
According to Jornal de Notícias, a former university professor is suspected of having phoned the police with the hoax call.
The professor has been ‘helping the police with their inquiries’ as he is said to have had unresolved issues with the university and told the PSP that a bomb has been left in a room of the School of Education and Communication.
This news has yet to be confirmed or denied by the authorities but the suspect was taken to the police station for some sensitive interrogation.
A week ago in Albufeira, a shopping centre has to be evacuated after it had been the target of a bomb threat. Hundreds of people had to be evacuated from Albufeira Shopping, but this threat also was a hoax.
